Heres a few pictures of my TL125 that I restored a year or so ago. The bike was purchased out of a shipping container and had come from Colorado in the US.

The story goes that it had been bought new and used until it stopped running one day. It was then laid up in the entrance to a barn and left (with the spark plug out). The piston was seized solid in the bore (after months of soaking we had to cut the con-rod) and while the chrome and alloy parts were in remarkably good condition the paint work was sun-bleached and sand blasted after many years stood.

Anyway, now shes finished shes a cracking little thing and despite being a little tiddler and, truth be told, not really a very good trials bike, she has really grown on me. The purists may not like the Sammy exhaust but the original system is beyond savable and it gives a bit of drama (noise) which the child in me enjoys. My eyes are peeled for a standard system to complete the restoration but there's no hurry.

Looking for ward to putting some more hours on the old girl and maybe even doing a local trial or two!

Hi,

Great pics, thanks for sharing, great to see one of these little bikes brought back to life again.

You are right and I've said in a previous post that they are S..t for trials and S..t on road but have something about them that no other trials bike has. Which is why I love them.

The exhausts are hard to get now, but I guess they are still out there, as a recent purchase goes to show. I bought a 125K in boxes, the owner made a big thing about there being a Sammy miller rear box with the bike, which I was pleased about however when I got the boxes home, next to the Sammy miller exhaust was the original exhaust in mint condition, no rust, no dint's, no welds. The only thing missing was the heat shield, which I'm still looking for. So keep looking, they are out there. I'm not a purist and use my TL's but think they look better with the original exhausts.

Regards

Great restoration! If you get a chance to do a trial, go for it as these bikes are great fun off road in ‘Beginner’ sections. Cheers Dabs

Thanks Mick! Ironically my exhaust guards are present and correct and were treated to a powdercoat in gloss black but the rear section of the exhaust is toast. It might just get resurrected if I ever get a quiet time (unlikely with three young kids) but it'll take a fair bit to bring it back to life.

Cheers Dabs, I'm sure I'll get out there on it for a laugh or two. Theres plenty going on nearby. If I get it plated I'll ride it to a trial and kill two birds with one stone.

Still not sure about getting it dirty mind... lol

Beautiful work !   One of the things I like about them is that they are small and relatively lite.  I just wish they had a little more power, a big bore might do the trick but options now days are thin. I bought mine in 95,you could still go into a Honda dealer and get what now are hard to find parts. Side covers, exhausts, seats were available all of which I bought. The exhaust silencer is now starting to rust thru
